Senior Care
Seniors live longer and have more fulfilling life styles. In Duncan, seniors keep active with golf, tennis, walking, running, and Senior Olympics at many locations including the Duncan Golf & Tennis Club and the Simmons Center. Dining in many local restaurants, boutique/antique shopping, visiting local museums, and enjoying art shows, plays, and concerts provide an opportunity to meet with friends. Duncan's two Senior Citizen Centers also provide a place to socialize, receive information on health issues, blood pressure checks, and transportation for appointments and shopping. Some of the socially-oriented recreational activities are card games, pool, dominoes, bingo, crafts, art classes, quilting, needlework, aerobics, and a "sit & be fit" program. Other activiites include potluck luncheons, health screenings, safe driver programs, and dances with a live band.
Duncan not only provides home/community-based services (home-delivered meals, adult day activities, long-term care support, and care giver support), but Duncan is the home to ASCOG's headquarters for an eight-county area. ASCOG provides options counseling for senior living. Stephens County has three assisted living centers, an independent living apartment community, and an Alzheimer's center. If services are needed, Duncan Group Home & The Power Shop provide development plans for physical disabiliites in the Center for Independent Living. To further support seniors, Stephens County has nursing home services for a total of 230 beds.
