During the The Duncan Area Economic Development Foundation (DAEDF)'s Duncan Area Youth Engineering Contest volunteers load the next batch of CO2 race cars to the track.
The Duncan Area Economic Development Foundation (DAEDF) go on track with the Duncan Area Youth Engineering Contest on Thursday morning. Students from 7th-12th grade designed, built and decorated balsa wood race cars powered by CO2 canisters. Participants come from Duncan Middle School, Empire Middle School, Temple Middle School, Epic Charter School, Empire High School, Red River Technology Center, Temple High School, Walters High School, and Duncan High School.
"Each year students learn so much from designing and building a C02 race car," stated Jeannie Bowden, Race Coordinator. "This event is helping to educate youth for careers following graduation and meet the workforce needs of employers."
The contest is challenging for students, teachers, and parents. It requires critical thinking, design, drafting, and manufacturing a CO2 race car. This contest is possible because of DAEDF's partnership with local businesses, middle schools, high schools, Red River Technology Center, and Cameron University. Manufacturing sponsors include Sensia, Halliburton, and Southern Machine Works, Inc. Other sponsors include GoEngineer and Pitsco Education.
