Duncan Area Economic Development Foundation Commits $800,000 to Simmons Center’s Future

Investment supports capital improvements and long-term endowment to ensure this icon of Stephens County thrives for generations

Duncan, Oklahoma – The Duncan Area Economic Development Foundation (DAEDF) announced an $800,000 commitment to the Simmons Center using funds that DAEDF has been able to generate through our building program, affirming its dedication to one of Duncan and Stephens County’s most cherished community institutions. The investment includes a $400,000 direct contribution toward the facility’s $1.8 million roof replacement project, paired with four annual contributions of $100,000 each to the Simmons Center Endowment, a fund designed to ensure the Center’s long-term financial sustainability and self-sufficiency.

For the last 37 years, the Simmons Center has been far more than a building. It is a gathering place where Duncan and Stephens County residents come together for civic events, cultural programs, youth activities, and community celebrations. It is iconic — a reflection of this community’s values and a source of shared pride. DAEDF’s commitment is rooted in the belief that institutions like the Simmons Center are worth protecting, and that investing in them is investing in the community itself.

“The Simmons Center is an icon of Stephens County where so many from the community gather and the Simmons center does so much good for the community we have to support assets like that when we are able,” stated Kelly Kirkland, DAEDF Board Chairman. “This investment ensures it remains a place where Duncan and Stephens County can gather, grow, and thrive for decades to come.”

The Simmons Center’s aging roof has presented an urgent structural need, with the full replacement project estimated at $1.8 million. DAEDF’s $400,000 contribution represents a significant anchor gift toward that goal, and this project has the full support of Duncan’s economic development leadership. Addressing the roof ensures the building remains safe, functional, and ready to serve the community for years ahead.

Beyond the immediate capital need, DAEDF’s commitment extends to the Simmons Center’s long-term financial health. Over the next four years, DAEDF will contribute $100,000 annually to the Simmons Center Endowment, a total of $400,000, to help grow a permanent fund that supports the Center’s ongoing operations.
