In recent weeks, one organization geared toward helping the Stephens County economy jumped in to help those in need in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Duncan Area Economic Development Foundation (DAEDF), in recent weeks, has dumped over $600,000 of their own money back into the economy to help reignite it or provide for those without as COVID-19 continues its rounds and the oil market bottomed out.
In that $600,000, which does not include tax payer money, United Way of Stephens County’s food banks, like Duncan’s Christians Concerned, Marlow Samaritans or Comanche’s Christian Helping Hands, received large donations specifically geared toward helping displaced workers and their families who were recently impacted from this disaster.
Other funds went to local businesses in Stephens County to help them keep going as money tightens. The grants, awarded by DAEDF’s re-start program, went to over 130 businesses in Stephens County between Duncan, Marlow, Comanche and Velma.
Vice Mayor Patty Wininger recently gave a shout out to DAEDF at the most recent meeting of Duncan City Council and the Duncan Economic Development Trust Authority. She said the help was truly appreciated and made a significant impact on those receiving help.
The Banner agrees. DAEDF has gone above and beyond to help out its own community and its own people right here in Stephens County.
Local businesses and local people themselves need help now more than ever and The Banner is proud to have organizations like DAEDF in the community providing these blessings daily.
