DUNCAN AREA YOUTH ENGINEERING CONTEST

The Duncan Area Economic Development Foundation (DAEDF) hosts the Duncan Area Youth Engineering Contest for 7th - 12th grade students in the Red River Technology Center school district each year in November. The contest is fun and challenging for students, teachers, and parents.  It requires critical thinking, design, drafting, and manufacturing a CO2 race car.  Major sponsors of the race include local partners/manufacturing businesses - Halliburton, Sensia, NOV/Wilco, and Southern Machine Works, Inc.  This contest is possible because of DAEDF's partnership with our local middle schools, high schools, Red River Technology Center, and Cameron University. Duncan's Dream It Do It Oklahoma initiative is a manufacturing career pathway associated with the Manufacturing Institute and the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM).

REGULAR RACE RULES          SIGN UP SHEET

"Although students may be aware of careers, this may be the student's first introduction to work-related skills and what is needed for the workforce.  The contest and building the cars allows students to work with others including adults that come in the classsroom and provide help with designing and cutting out the cars.  It forces students to create a timeline to get the tasks completed (task of designing the car by a due date, cutting out the car by a due date, and finally the competition). " - Tammy Bennett, former Duncan Middle School STEM Teacher

"There is a global race to close the skills gap between workplace needs and available skilled workforce.  We strive to develop an interest in students, helping them pursue training and ultimately filling the needs of our employers.  Jobs in engineering and manufacturing are rewarding on many levels.  Great pay, advancing technology, and lots of professional opportunities are some of the awesome benefits." - Tandy Banks
